Progressive Learning

Yoga Central - Iyengar Central prides itself in promoting self-practice, inviting international trainers and hosting regular teacher development workshops for the community at large.

Suggested Progressive Learning program for Beginners:

A. IY101 - 'Intro to Iyengar Yoga' for 8 classes; or 'General' for 15-20 classses - duration is different as Course IY101 is the systematic and purposeful way to learn Iyengar Yoga; the other class arrangement is to learn Hatha Yoga taught in Iyengar way; number of classes various depending on student conditions and attendance pattern.

B. LED Practice for 4-8 times to identitfy which areas you'd like to work on; 

C. Request for Self-Practice Workshop  - see below structure - and attend workshops by our teachers or international ones to deepen your understanding

Self-Practice workshops:

Structure:

  1. 4 x 2-hr classes +
  2. Individual Objective-setting  with notes +
  3. 2 morning practices with a certified teacher +
  4. Personalized Sequence to meet each student's lifestyle & schedule for 3 months +
  5. Q&A session for individual practice questions

Fee:  HK$1,800 ( inclusive of all materials)

Pre-requisite: Must have attended Iyengar yoga classes for the last 12 months.

International Teachers:

Adho_Mukha_Vrksasana_-_Peter_ScottPeter & Sue Scott  - Senior Intermediate level Certified Iyengar Yoga teacher, began teaching Iyengar Yoga in 1980's and training teachers in 1990's. Based in Melbourne, Peter & Sue run an Iyengar Yoga institute together.  While Peter was a past President of the Iyengar Yoga Association of Australia, Sue became President in 2016.  Both serve in the Assessment Committee and Peter was Chair of Assessment Committee 1999-2000 & 2009-2010. He has been teaching in HK since 2002 to Hong Kong to give workshops and teacher trainings. Sue has been coming to HK and Taiwan in recent years conducting workshops and trainings. Peter’s yoga teaching calls on the subjective, experiential learning drawn from his daily yoga practice as well as objective, knowledge-based studies. Both are known for their clarity and effectiveness in teaching, which has made them popular senior Iyengar teachers.

marla_030_SAAM_ColorMarla Apt - Senior Intermediate level Certified Iyengar Yoga teacher, is based in Los Angeles where she is on the faculty of the three-year Teacher Training Program of the Iyengar Yoga Association of Southern California. She leads workshops and trainings throughout the U.S. and abroad.  Marla visited India for the first time while doing research for a degree in Buddhist Philosophy and has since returned numerous times for yoga studies including a year of study in Pune, India with B.K.S. Iyengar, his daughter, Geeta Iyengar and son, Prashant Iyengar. She continues to study annually with the Iyengars.
